There are numerous
cheap hotel chains in France which knock the spots off any UK equivalent
in terms of price. However recent implementation of EU regulations by most
of these chains means that family rooms for upto 4 people (including children)
are becoming a thing of the past...
Luckily, the B&B, Villages Hotel and the Misterbed chains still offer
family rooms for up to 4 people, so for a standard 2 parent-2 young kids
family, these are our motels of choice, when travelling long distance by
autoroute. The B&B chain is particularly good in that the family rooms
are on two levels. Make sure you book a family room in advance though.
One to avoid
MisterBed at Troyes is at a VERY noisy location being next to a factory
that operates 24 hours. As there is no A/C and you have to leave the windows
open in summer so don't even think about a visit at that time of year. This
was particularly annoying for us as we rang up to ask how noisy it was before
booking and were assured it was quiet. The MisterBed hotel at Bourges was
fine however. |
